Location & Hours

The principal office of the Jefferson County Clerk is located at 527 W. Jefferson Street, Louisville, KY 40202. Regular office hours are 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.

Requesting Records

All requests to inspect public records in the custody of the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office must be made to the official custodian, in writing, and include the following information:

  • The requestor’s first and last name and any contact information necessary to provide the requested records;
  • A sufficient description of the records requested to be inspected; and
  • A statement that the requestor is a resident of the Commonwealth of Kentucky as defined by KRS 61.870(10).

Requests may be submitted through the Jefferson County Clerk’s open records portal or by e-mail to openrecords@jeffersoncountyclerk.org.

Requests may also be mailed or hand-delivered to 200 South Fifth St., Ste. 400 South, Louisville, KY 40202, or faxed to 502-584-3203. These requests should be addressed to: Attn: Records Custodian, Natalie Johnson.

Requestors may also utilize the standardized form created by the Office of the Attorney General found here: OAG Open Records Request Form. If completing this open records request form, please e-mail, mail or hand-deliver it to the records custodian as provided above.

Requests may be submitted during normal business hours for the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office. Any request submitted after normal business hours will be deemed accepted on the next business day.

Records Inspection and Fees

Records may be inspected in-person, or by mail or e-mail.

If the requestor wishes to inspect public records in-person, the records custodian, or their designee, will work with the requestor to schedule a convenient time and place for such inspection.

Requestors shall be charged for copies of public records and postage, if required. Paper copies are $.50 per page, unless otherwise prescribed by law. If copies of the records are provided by another media, including, but not limited to, flash drives, CDs, DVDs or other external hard drives, you will be charged the actual cost of such media.

Requestors will be notified of all costs in providing the requested public records. These costs must be prepaid prior to receiving the records.

Commercial Purpose Requests and Fees

If the request is for a commercial purpose, as defined by KRS 61.870(4), the requestor will be asked to provide a certified statement identifying the commercial purpose for which the records will be used.

Requestors making commercial purpose requests will be charged a reasonable fee for the cost of media, mechanical processing, and staff time required to provide copies of the public records, including compiling, reviewing and redacting the public records.

Requestors will be notified of all costs in providing the requested public records. These costs must be prepaid prior to receiving the records.
